CURRICULUM

Carondelet Leadership Academy prides itself on offering all students a rigorous yet differentiated curriculum.  As a staff, we are committed to:

  • The belief that each and every student can and will learn

  • Learning must be differentiated to meet individual needs

  • Providing daily opportunities to problem solve and develop critical thinking skills

  • Applying our learning to the world beyond our school walls

  • Developing community leaders through engaging, thought provoking teaching and learning

Literacy instruction utilizes a balanced literacy approach, where students apply decoding and comprehension strategies to literature and nonfiction texts at their individual instructional levels.  They respond to literature through writing and verbal collaboration with peers, and our emphasis is on helping children develop a love for reading and writing.

Our math program allows our students to explore a variety of problem solving strategies through real world situations.  We strive to facilitate an understanding of mathematical processes as opposed to simply memorizing formulas.  As a result, our students learn to apply mathematical principles to finance, design, construction and a host of other areas.

We create young scientists through hands-on experiences that allow our students to experience all stages of the scientific process.  Students explore concepts focusing on matter and energy, force and motion, life and earth sciences in order to better understand and protect our planet for current and future generations.

As social scientists, our students explore the principles upon which our country was founded, and how those principles relate to life in the 21st century.  Focus areas include Missouri, United States and World History; economic concepts; geography; and traditions of individuals, groups and society as a whole.  This work helps our students to better understand their place in society and how their relationships and actions can impact our world.

We utilize technology on a daily basis as a means to enhance and accelerate our learning.  Students have regular access to ipads and Chrome Books in order to enrich daily classroom instruction through games, research and a wide variety of apps that allow them to apply their learning to different problem solving situations in all subject areas.

Learning is both an individual and group process at CLA.  We invite you to visit our school to learn more about how teaching and learning come together to develop tomorrow's leaders!
